All 168 rooms and 20 suites combine contemporary elegance with The Balmoral's strong sense of history and charm. Each bedroom has its own characteristics borrowed from the Scottish heritage, which offers a true refuge in which to relax or escape. The striped carpets and paint colors in the bedrooms have the earthy colors of the moors, mists and heathers that one associates with Scotland, natural fabrics were used throughout: linens, silks, wools and leather and introduced on headboards, valances and comfortable armchairs. The artwork has been selected to reflect Scottish themes and includes artists such as Donald Campbell and his Bluebird, the Skerrymore Lighthouse and a Circular Tour of the Highlands by Richard Long, the blankets on the end of every bed, are exclusively designed by Johnston's of Elgin.

Attention has been given to the in-room facilities and each room has two telephone lines; fax-modem lines and broadband internet connection as well as an interactive national and satellite television, in-room refreshment facilities, air-conditioning, a spacious marble and ceramic bathroom with fluffy towels, robes and luxury amenities. Several bedrooms and suites have magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle, the Sir Walter Scott Monument and Princes Street.

For an outstanding culinary experience, the hotel's Michelin-starred number one restaurant is recognized as one of Scotland's best restaurants. As wellguests can choose from, Hadrian's for chic and informal dining, Palm Court for cocktails or traditional afternoon tea, and NB's Bar for a relaxing drink with live entertainment.

The Balmoral is adjacent to Waverley Station, which is served by direct links from all around the country, in addition to the frequent main-line service from London King's Cross.
